Frequently Asked Questions

1. What can I expect during my visit?
During your first visit you will meet our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) they will start by obtaining a detailed history. In-person visits will include an oral assessment of baby and your baby will be weighed. A weighted feed may or may not be recommended at your visit. If appropriate, we may offer a maternal breast/chest exam. The IBCLC will tailor your visit to support your unique concerns or challenges. This may include things such as reviewing latch, hold and positioning. If you are meeting with our Breastfeeding Medicine specialist, she may recommend lab work, medications or supplements as appropriate.

2. Do I need to feed my baby before my visit?
It certainly helps if your baby is hungry when we start our visit. Although we recognize that timing it just right can be difficult, it is important for us to be able to observe feedings. If baby insists on eating before your appointment time, consider offering a ''snack-sized'' feeding so that they'll still be interested in participating in a feeding session with us when we see you.

3. How long will my visit be?
An initial consult typically lasts somewhere between 60 to 90 minutes. Follow up visits, depending on your unique needs may be as quick as 20-30 minutes. Your visit will be billed accordingly for the time spent and the complexity of your visit.

4. Do you take my insurance?
We are currently working to become in-network with local insurance companies. You will receive a superbill at the end of your visit that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We ask that you contact your insurer  before your visit for details on the benefits of your individual plan. We cannot guarantee any coverage of services by your insurance provider. Office visits are billed for both the infant and the lactating parent; both may be subject to deductibles and co-pays. Lactation services are often considered an HSA/FSA eligible expense, please check with your plan provider to confirm if these services are covered.

5. Is there a payment plan?

We do offer discounts and payment plans for un- and under-insured patients, these will be offered on a case-by-case basis. A credit card is required to have on file for your account. While we can offer a payment plan, you may pay your balance in full at any time.

If you have any general breastfeeding questions, please know that we are unable to answer them without having reviewed a health history and having signed consent forms. We can only answer questions from current patients. Please schedule an appointment if you'd like to discuss your questions.
